My family is in love with BBQ sauce so it was time for me to create my own healthy Sweet and Sour BBQ Sauce Recipe. This recipe gather the trio of flavour we love in BBQ sauce. It is smoky, sweet and slightly sour. The colour is lighter than commercial BBQ sauce because I choose to use a tiny amount of molasse in this recipe. I really wanted to keep the added sugar content low. Instead, I used lots of fresh apples to enhance the sweetness of this simple BBQ sauce. If you are looking for an healthy sweet sauce to glaze ham this Christmas I really think this is the sauce you should use. It taste divine ! There is no much to say about this BBQ sauce. It is simply delicious and goes perfectly well with grilled meat, vegetables or as a spread in sandwiches. My husband loves to use this sauce in burgers. I prefer to use it as a dip for my vegetables or as a pizza base.
This recipe makes a jar of about 3 cups BBQ sauce. I stored the BBQ sauce in the fridge in closed airtight mason jar and it keep well up to 2 weeks. I added some guar gum into this recipe because I like sticky BBQ sauce. But it is up to you this is very optional.
